Item Description
Lot of three, each card is 1.5x2.25". In conjunction with a post-season visit by the AL Champion Detroit Tigers, Cabanas brand cigarettes issued this set. 35 cards are known in the set which featured three teams: Detroit Tigers, Almendares and Habana. Each team had its own specific border design/color around portrait photo image on the front with player name and position below. Text on back references both Cuban and American players and promotes Cabanas cigarettes. Cards are: Detroit David Jones (center field) SGC 20 Fair 1.5, Habana Augustin "Tinti" Molina (1st base) SGC 40 VG 3, Almendares Armando Marsans (left field) SGC 50 VG/EX 4. Jones (1880-1972) nicknamed "Kangaroo" was an outfielder in Major League Baseball for 15 seasons. Jones played with some of the early legends of the game and was immortalized in the classic baseball book "The Glory of Their Times" by Lawrence Ritter. Molina is a member of the Cuban Baseball Hall of Fame. Marsans (1887-1960) was a Major League Baseball outfielder from 1911 to 1918. He played winter baseball in the Cuban League from 1905 to 1928 and was one of ten players elected to the Cuban Baseball Hall of Fame in its 1939 inaugural class.
