Item Description
1.25" with only remnants of W&H backpaper although their name also appears on the curl. Metal back has heavy oxidation and the button has dark brown stain around outer edges plus noticeable but less dark stain over the white background. In spite of this it still remains fully glossy and text and image remain easily visible. Bottom has vertical cigars in a circular band printed over the flag inscribed "Wheeling." Upper rim reads "Juergens Butternut Bread" and above the player is the text "Champions Central League." This button is cataloged in the Hake and Roger Steckler Guide to Non-Paper Sports Collectibles although we did not know his name then and still do not. Button is c. 1910. Only one button was known in what was obviously a series. Design is quite similar to the set issued by Hermes ice cream picturing the 1910 Pittsburgh world's champions. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
