Item Description
Seven items c. 1936. 12.5x15-5/8x2" deep box has wonderful lid graphics of various Chicago Tribune-New York News comic strip characters including Dick Tracy and Jr., Orphan Annie and Sandy, Moon Mullins and Kayo, Skeezix and Uncle Walt, Herby, Perry Winkle, and Shadow from Harold Teen. All are shown holding their molded figures. Box has lt. wear around edges with .5x1" bit of missing surface paper at upper left lid top. Bright color and Fine. Die-cut thin cardboard insert holds complete parts including tin scoop and pan, watercolor paint palette, pair of 3.25" tall cardboard powder canisters with comic strip illustrated labels and four rubber molds ranging in size from 3.5" tall to 3.75" tall. Molds are for Dick Tracy, Moon Mullins, Smitty, and Harold Teen. Kit also includes 8.25x10.75" illustrated sheet with list of extra molds available in series. Sheet has lt. creasing and a few edge tears with 1.75" moisture mark at upper left. VG. Rubber molds show varying degrees of hardening with some warping. Overall Fine/VF. Rest of contents are VF. Comes with six extra boxed molds. Boxes are 1x2x4" thin cardboard with wrap around illustrations and same characters as shown on box lid of large set. These molds were sold separately from the large boxed set. The boxes are marked on one end w/ character names of molds enclosed. Characters include Smitty, Little Joe, Terry, Orphan Annie, Tiny Tim, and Winnie Winkle. Five are in correct box but Winnie Winkle is in The Gumps box. A few boxes has lt. side panel creasing but VF overall with inside molds showing little use. Nice set with superb graphics and great design. Rare.
