Item Description
c. 1970s. England. 9.75x27.8.5” deep original cardboard shipping box with original inside packing material has “Walt Disney Productions” label on one end. Box has scattered wear with dust soil, hand-written Mickey name on one end. Fine. Smiling Mickey is 25” tall with hard composition head, hands and feet with felt ears and shirt wearing polyester pants with wood arms and rubber legs. Has oversized wood controller with “Pelham Puppets Made In England” nameplate. Top of controller also has large metal spring for hanging display. Not strung like regular marionette; more simply strung for store or window display. Marionette has a few minor color rubs on back of head but o/w is essentially Mint. Bright color and great design. Production of these display marionettes was limited as they were only sold to store owners, they were never intended to be sold to the general public. This one and the following #'s 2216-2218 were purchased by a Central Pennsylvania toy/gift shop owner in the mid-1970s. Once they arrived he realized that due to the limited amount of space in his store he could not display them. Acquired from him by the consignor (who also never displayed them) they were never unpacked from their boxes until these photos were taken. A unique opportunity to acquire these scarce items in optimal condition. From the Deak Stagemyer Collection.
