Item Description
Adult size corduroy jacket by Broadway Knitting Mills of Buffalo, NY., this is Buffalo Bob Smith’s personal jacket for the 1952 Howdy Doody For President campaign. Yellow corduroy with black corduroy-lined slash pockets and black trim, padded lining. “Buffalo Bob” name embroidered on chest. Back of jacket has large and elaborate word balloon reading “Buffalo Bob Says Howdy Doody For President.” Howdy Doody appears at top and both Howdy Doody and Buffalo Bob have embroidered accents to their hair and Howdy Doody’s neckerchief. As a promotion during the “Howdy Doody Show,” Buffalo Bob Smith staged campaigns to elect Howdy Doody “President Of All Boys And Girls” in 1948 and 1952. The 1952 election, from which this jacket is from, garnered over a million write-in ballots and Howdy Doody won by 1,294,003 votes over his rival “Mr. X.” Some minor scattered lt. spotting to front of jacket below pocket on side with Buffalo Bob’s name. Snap buttons have some wear to black paint but jacket still displays VF overall. Great Howdy Doody item with connections to both the classic children’s TV show, its star Howdy Doody and the man behind it all – Buffalo Bob Smith.
