Item Description
These two pieces, a 3x5” card and a 4x8.5” brochure that opens to 8.5x11.5”, were used by Clinton in his first ever campaign. He was one of four Democratic candidates running in the Arkansas primary for US Congress, Third Congressional District. The brochure is titled “Clinton On Issues Like Inflation And Energy” and includes a statement by him with facsimile signature and date “April 6, 1974.” The card front carries the date of the primary voting day May 28, 1974. On the back of the card, Clinton begins his message with “The Over-riding Issue Of This Campaign Is Clear, We Need A Stronger Congress.” Clinton led the 4 candidates but a run-off was needed and on June 11, 1974 he won the nomination but on Nov. 4, 1974 lost to Republican John Hammerschmidt 52%-48%. Brochure’s upper 2.5” of each side has tiny brown mildew dots, but quite light and not very distracting. Still near VF. The card has only the smallest traces of age and is Exc. A pair of historic items from Clinton’s first campaign. Rare.
