Item Description
This 1-5/8” litho was used 2 years following the original introduction of the Hopalong Cassidy-endorsed and bank-sponsored program to promote children opening savings accounts. See lot #2027 in this auction. This is the highest ranking award button from that program. The 1950 club folders specify the highest rank button as “Foreman” which was given to children reaching $500. This button is from 2 years later. It was awarded to club members who recruited 1 new savings account member for the sponsoring bank, either an adult or another child. If the member recruited 3 new members, an Honor Member wallet with Hoppy decal on the brass front of the wallet was awarded as well. Without question, this is the rarest of the USA-issued buttons and one of only 3 examples we’ve seen in 4 decades. Button has a few exceedingly tiny paint dots off the lower left edge barely noticeable. Exc. and displays N. Mint.
