Item Description
Topps issued its first Funny Valentines set in 1959 followed by a second set in 1960. All cards are 2.5x3.5” with fronts featuring sweet Valentine greeting while backs have a humorous twist. Cards include art by Jack Davis. Several cards feature monster-related images including “You Could Be A Movie Star/If They Ever Remake Dracula” and “You Remind Me Of A Movie Star/Frankenstein.” Lot includes 2 graded packs by Global Authentication Inc., both are Mint 9. One is for first series and features Frankenstein on the wrapper, the other is for second “A” series with totally different wrapper design. Each set consisted of 66 cards. This lot has 2 complete 66-card sets for the 1959 issue. About half of the card backs have typical tan aging but both sets remain N. Mint. Also included are 250 extra cards from 1959 series and 100 from 1960 series, not full sets but near sets plus duplicates. Vast majority are N. Mint. Final item is original Topps 500 count vending box marked “Valentine” on one side panel. Moderate scattered wear/aging. Fine. An instant collection.
