Item Description
Each of these is 2.25” carrying the copyright of “United Features Syndicate” and the date of 1969. In most cases, a copyright date on a Peanuts item refers to the date of copyright and not the date of issue but in this case we think the date is very close to the date of issue as Schulz opened his Snoopy-themed arena in his hometown of Santa Rosa, April 28, 1969. The facility quickly became known as the most beautiful ice arena in the world. The facility was available for local birthday parties and that is the purpose of one of these buttons reading “Happy Birthday/Red Wood Empire Ice Arena.” Normal and lt. surface wear marks only in reflected light. Second button was for those attending “Snoopy’s Skating School/Freestyle/Red Wood Empire Ice Arena.” This one is Exc. and displays Mint. While the red button has only the UFS copyright, the purple button includes the name of the maker of many of the mid-60s Snoopy buttons, “Simon Simple Orig., Orange, N.J.” First we’ve seen of these quite scarce early issues.
