Item Description
1940s “Made In Occupied Japan” toy by Okabe has overall size of 3x4x9” tall. Originally came in box with illustrated label reading “Lucky Go-Round” depicting children using telescope to look into space. Toy has tin litho base with great images of spaceman, rocketships, planets, stars, etc. Attached to this by post is circular container with glass top over additional rocketship space scene, also contains various objects of metal and celluloid that move as this center unit spins. Final piece which attaches to wire bracket is the tin and foil-covered cardboard scope. This has mirror inserts so when you look through it and the circular compartment rotates, you get a combination of typical kaleidoscope affects as well as space images. Works and comes with a key. Tin base has light trace of paint wear mostly along extreme edges, one small corner dent. Light wear to scope. Paper label on inside of center compartment has typical spotting from glue used to adhere it to base surface. Fine. A scarce space toy with exceptional design.
