Item Description
1.25” with W&H backpaper used 1898. Pictured is “Sergt. R.G. Holmes/Phillipsburg, N.J.” Although specifying a different pair of initials, the New York Times in 1898 reported a soldier by the name of Holmes as one of three from the Astor Battery, organized and equipped by Col. Astor, as being killed while taking Manila from the Spanish. Whether this is the same soldier or not we do not know but button is essentially Mint and only one we’ve ever seen. Comes with Hake’ COA.
