Item Description
This 2-1/8” item originally had a mirror on the reverse but that is now totally missing and a large pin has been substituted. Three items are known in the series relating to Minneapolis or St. Paul teams c. 1905. On all 3 items, the outer rim text “Minneapolis Tribune/For Best Baseball News” is identical. The inner area pictures a player and some revealing description about them. In this case, the text reads “Block-Knock Them Down At Second!” Button has 2 significant pieces of celluloid totally missing and removing a few letters of both the sponsor’s name and the slogan. One missing area is 5/16” dia. and the other 3/16”. There are a couple of tiny cracks around the perimeters of these areas and the outer rim edge has faint age dots. A thanks to baseball and boxing button book author Paul Muchinsky for this information and he also notes these items are typically in rough shape for some reason. Fair condition but rare. From the Richard Merkin Collection. Comes with Hake’s COA.
