Item Description
1.75” with name of Cunard Line steamship “S.S. Berengaria” plus stylized eagle holding pair of flags with rim text “Hungarian American Pilgrimage – August 8th – 1928.” The purpose of their visit to America was so they could attend the inauguration of the statue of Lajos Kossuth on Riverside Drive in New York City. Kossuth was an important political figure in 19th century Hungary and toured the United States in the 1850s. He was known as a freedom fighter and as a Hungarian version of George Washington. N. Mint and displays Mint. Extremely limited issue. Only one we’ve seen.
