Item Description
1.25” is in exceptionally beautiful color although with slight traces of age around the cream rim. Company name at top “Dominion Line” which dates back to a founding in 1870. This button is likely c. 1902 when service was provided between Boston and the Mediterranean as the lower rim text on this reads “Christmas Excursions To Old Country.” The metal back has an extra applied thin circle of metal .75” in dia. with a small notch cut out of it. It does not affect the celluloid whatsoever but its purpose is unknown to us. While there is no backpaper covering this, the name of the button maker W&H appears on the curl. Design includes flags of several countries including the ship line itself and the ship features distinctive red funnel with white band and black top. Comes with Hake’s COA.
