Item Description
Impressive toy from the late 1950s by Cragstan/Yonezawa. Box lid features large illustrated label depicting passengers boarding TWA plane, second plane flies by in the bkg. Label has 3.5” split at left. Moderate scattered box aging but remains tight and structurally sound, complete with all cardboard insert/packing material as well as instruction sheet on inside of lid. Box is Fine. Plane has overall size of 21” in length, 23” wingspan by 6.5” tall. Tin litho with plastic propellers and accessory pieces. Great design/detailing including repeated “TWA” name, passengers at die-cut windows. Complete with tin litho deplaning ramp marked “TWA” as well as light bulb all still sealed in original plastic bag as issued. Works and actions include: blinking light on top of fuselage, each engine starts one at a time and then plane moves about. Plane stops and engines shut off then door opens as passengers’ faces disappear and the stewardess appears at door which opens. Door then shuts and actions repeat. Plane shows just tiniest traces of wear with some minor scattered paint nicks but remains totally bright and glossy. Old store stock. Exc. An exceptional battery toy and expensive in its day. Box still has original $10.00 price sticker at one corner.
