Item Description
Die-cut tin with a metal base extending back to a depth of .5”. The front of the piece is 1-1/8” wide by 1-7/8” tall. Depicted is a cat in an outfit standing before a stone wall. He holds the product package in his hand. His head is circular tin on a thin tin shaft which fits through a slot. A tiny punch-out in the metal keeps the head from falling through the slot and its delicate position allows it to bob front and back, left and right at the slightest touch. Underside of the base has a narrow ripple line in the metal but this causes no problem and the verse printed on this base reads “Don’t You Think I’m A Fine Little Cat. All Dressed Up, So Happy And Fat, I May Like To Chase Mice, But I’m Really Quite Nice, When Curled Up Asleep On My Mat.” c. 1920. Extremely fine and only example we’ve seen. Very clever.
