Item Description
1x1.75x2.75” tall nicely hand-painted figural cast metal depictions of Max and Moritz sitting on bench with Moritz’s head on a thin metal rod, allowing it to nod. Attached 2” dia. metal cased mirror is at his left elbow. Unmarked but German, c. 1900. Max and Moritz,whose mischievous adventures were first featured in a German book printed in 1865, are considered to be the direct inspiration for Rudolph Dirks’ The Katzenjammer Kids. Bright color with 1/8” area of color rub to Moritz’s hair but o/w Exc. Great design. Scarce. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake’s COA.
