Item Description
8” tall with flexible rubber head covering that has plastic eye lenses with metal rims, fabric-covered elastic head straps and metal filter base. Comes in original cardboard box with text on top flap, attached carrying strap. c. 1941. One of the most unusual Mickey items and an eerie reflection of the time, created due to the outbreak of WWII and desire to keep kids safe while in a kid friendly way. English manufacturer Happynak (known for their Disney sand pails) also produced a gas mask carrying canister which is quite rare. A totally different Mickey gas mask was created in the US (see publicity photo #1748). Lid text includes “This Special Respirator For A Small Child Is Government Property.” Box has moderate aging and trace of staple rust. Fine. Rubber mask remains quite pliable but has all-over dust soiling. Metal base has a few tiny traces of oxidation. Still VF overall. Rare with box. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
