1.25”. Rather dark tan staining all around the perimeter but central area remains much less effected with just exceedingly minor stain traces. Reverse has .25x.5” thin layer of surface paper missing but enough of the text still remains to determine button was made by the “Adv. Nov. Co.” in Kansas City, MO. Person was secretary of the Socialist Party group in Clinton, IL. He published The Strike Bulletin during the strike against the Illinois Central and Harriman railroad lines. This effort began in 1911. In Sept. 1913, Person was savagely beaten by a form Clinton police chief and Person shot and killed the man, Tony Musser in the fight. Labor and Socialist groups raised funds for the Person Defense League. Eugene Debs was actively involved and insisted Person’s actions were justifiable self defense. Person wrote to Debs on Aug. 10, 1914 to thank him for “The Many Good Words You Have Spoken For Me In Our Cause.” On Oct. 4, 1914 Person was acquitted by a jury in Lincoln, IL. Only example we’ve seen.
