Item Description
This is among the rarest and probably the most graphic of the relatively few 1.25” Harding portrait buttons. The button has a union bug stamp on the metal reverse as well as a Chicago union bug on the bottom curl. The cream bkg. around Harding has a pair of 1/8” dia. areas where the color tone on close inspection is just a hair darker than the surrounding area. Likewise, with 2 even smaller 1/16” areas on his forehead. All 4 marks are just barely perceptible. The overall condition of this rare button is superior to most of the few examples known. Centering is perfect. There is almost no surface scratching even under magnification and the button has great gloss. The value in Hake’s 2004 Revised Prices is $800. Extremely Fine.
