Item Description
Lot of four. 3.5x5”. c. 1910. Photographic images from French series. Same text at bottom in French translates to “Sam MacVea, Champion Of Europe/Boxing Heavyweight.” McVea (McVey) was a famous contender in the earliest 20th century. Only lost 16 of his 96 documented fights which were held in at least 10 countries. His greatest wins include two victories over both Sam Langford and Harry Wills which won him the “Colored Heavyweight Title” on two separate occasions. Margin pinholes appear at top/bottom centers of three. Lt. aging. Display Fine. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake’s COA.
