Item Description
6.5x10” folded size as mailed has Milwaukee, WI. radio station WISN return address on mailing label. Opens to 12.75x20”. c. 1930s. Map of United States presents “A Radio Map Of The Columbia Broadcasting System Showing CBS Stations In The United States And Canada.” Each state has varying degrees of orange dots indicating different radio stations, 98 in total. Many states have humorous cartoons related to things that state was known for. Of note, cowboy on horseback listens to radio in Texas, hillbillies listen to radio in Kentucky/West Virginia, hula girl dances to radio in Hawaii, rotund man listens to radio while drinking beer in Wisconsin, steamboat with large radio on roof cruises up Mississippi, stereotypical blacks dance to radio in Georgia, stereotypical Chinese laundry man listens to radio in California and native Americans listen to radio in the Southwest. A lobster listens to a radio off the North Atlantic coast and a man lowers a radio into a boat from a lighthouse in the mid-Atlantic. A Mountie listens to radio while patrolling in Canada and a man pushes a stroller with quintuplets (referencing the Dionne Quintuplets). Illustration of radio towers on left and right of map. Scattered handling wear with some dust soiling and staining. Fine+ overall. Rare and first we’ve seen in our 43 years.
