Item Description
4-3/8x5-5/8” opens to 5-5/8x8-5/8”. Promotes Tod Browning’s 1932 horror classic “Freaks.” Front of herald reads “Freaks – The World Is Going To Be Amazed By This Picture!” and has images of Prince Randian, Schlitzie and a midget. Herald opens to reveal image of Henry Victor as Hercules the Strong Man glaring at female lead Venus played by Leila Hyams kissing midget co-star Harry Earles, better known as Harry Doll due to his stature. Again, large “Freaks” film title appears across center of herald with characters including Schlitzie, Koo-Koo the Bird Girl as well as the Hilton Twins and the Human Skeleton. Sensational text includes “Do Siamese Twins Make Love?, What Sex Is The Half-Man Half-Woman, Can The Pinheads Think?, Can A Full-Grown Woman Truly Love A Midget?” From original 1932 release. Scattered handling wear with 1.25” crease in lower right corner of herald cover. VF overall. Scarce. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake’s COA.
