Item Description
9.25x14” double-sided sheet. c. 1932. One side reads “Prizes For Members Of Signal Tarzan Club.” A total of 31 prizes are listed with 15 shown. The pictured Tarzan prizes include leopard print bathing suit, boy’s sweater with club emblem, felt hat, club emblem, bow and arrows, nice “Fire By Friction Outfit.” Additional Tarzan items listed but not shown are identification tag, book, girl’s sweater and emblem. The other prizes are generic in nature. Opposite side of sheet features detailed information on how prizes were to be obtained, bottom margin has unused entry blank. Information on obtaining prizes states “All You Need To Do To Win A Tarzan Prize Is To Get Some Of Your Family, Friends, Relatives Or Neighbors Who Drive An Automobile To Sign Tarzan Club Courtesy Card Agreeing To Try Signal Products In Their Car And Have Them Turn Card In At A Signal Service Station.” Additional text referring to “Special Clan Prizes” reads “Prizes Will Be Awarded To Single Tarzan Clans. Clans Will Receive Credit For All The Courtesy Cards Turned In To The Individual Members Of Each Clan. Thus, In Addition To The Individual Prizes, The Clan Prizes, Described At Left Will Be Awarded As Soon As The Required Number Of Cards Have Been Received.” These 9 special prizes included a set of 3 clan pennants, a clan flag, both illustrated on this sheet. Sheet has five .25-1” edge splits on the original fold lines. Top center has pair of staple holes. The side describing how prizes were obtained has trace of aging, mostly to top half. However, overall appearance of sheet remains totally bright and clean. Fine. The first we’ve seen and featuring many premiums previously unknown to us.
