Item Description
7.5x11.5” glossy one-sided paper herald for Brooklyn, NY. stage show that took place Feb. 23, 1951. Herald has nice bw photo image of a menacing Lugosi in typical Dracula pose. Rest of herald has images of devil and ghosts with inset image showing terrified woman being menaced by ape. Text includes “On Stage! The One And Only! The Original Dracula! In Person ‘Mr. Horror’ Himself Bela Lugosi And His Evil Spirits From The World Of Darkness And Horror & Magic Stage Show. 13 Breath-Taking Scenes To Hold You Spellbound! A Carload Of Scenery!” Herald also advertises “Plus On Our Screen – Bela Lugosi In They Creep In The Dark.” A re-titled Monogram film, likely “The Ape Man” from 1943. Other brief blurbs on flier read “See! Bela Lugosi Come To Life From His Coffin! See! Lugosi In The Bloody Guillotine! See! The Bat Man And The Monster In Death Struggle!” Tickets were available for $1.00 and special feature at bottom of herald shows eye with text “Breathe On The Vampire’s Eye – If It Turns Red You Will Be Admitted Free To See This Show.” Herald has been folded multiple times and shows wear along fold lines. VG overall. Scarce. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake’s COA.
