Item Description
22.5x30” stiff pulp paper poster for c. 1940s personal appearance by Dick Tracy actor Byrd. Byrd portrayed Dick Tracy in 4 serials, 2 feature films and a TV series between 1937 and his death in 1952. This poster was produced at a time when Morgan Conway was portraying Dick Tracy. Conway did not strike a chord with fans and Byrd was eventually brought back. Poster text reads “Ralph Byrd On Stage In Person - The Original Dick Tracy And His Company Of Entertainers.” Shadow profile of Tracy as poster promotes Byrd’s personal appearance and was likely not studio sanctioned at the time. Rough left and right margins as produced. Two .25” punctures above Tracy’s image and a slight .25” dent on his face and some lt. handling wear. These detract little from overall appearance which remains VF. Rare and first we’ve seen in our 43 years.
