Item Description
3.5x5.5” full color postcard featuring the art of noted Tarzan illustrator J. Allen St. John. This same art appeared on the first edition cover of “The Son Of Tarzan” published by A.C. McClurg & Co. Tarzan fans would write the publisher requesting information about future novels and these cards were sent out to these fans to promote upcoming books. This postcard in particular is from 1917 and features brief synopsis of novel on reverse with leopard image. Card is unmarked and not postmarked. Scattered aging and dust soiling, most noticeable on reverse. Fine/VF. Rare and only the second we’ve offered in our 43 years. Considered some of the earliest pieces of Edgar Rice Burroughs’ collectible ephemera. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake’s COA.
