Item Description
9.25x12.25” Vol. 34 Nos. 25-26 for weeks of Jun. 2 and Jun. 9, 1934. Great female drummer pin-up cover. Publication starts off with bw portraits of Universal stars including ZaSu Pitts, Henry Hull, William Powell, Gloria Stuart, Karloff, Buck Jones, Bela Lugosi and others. Included ads for “The Great Ziegfeld,” an adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Raven” that eventually starred Bela Lugosi and Boris Karloff though neither are pictured or listed, 2-page spread for Moon Mullins, 6 Buck Jones westerns, Buck Jones serial “The Red Ryder” as well as serials for Tailspin Tommy, 2-page ad for Oswald the Lucky Rabbit cartoon. Highlight of exhibitor’s book is 2-page spread for “Bride Of Frankenstein” which is listed as “A James Whale Production” but gives no list of Karloff or any other stars. Great image of the Frankenstein Monster with normal looking “Bride,” great pre-release publicity. Issue has 4” spine split at bottom and moderate handling wear to covers which are VG. Pages have some edge/corner tip wear and are VF overall. Limited distribution. Additional photos online.
