Item Description
5.5” tall wood composition figure was designed by legendary Superman artist Wayne Boring to promote Superman to DC Comics’ distributors and retailers. 1942. This is fully-painted version which is much rarer than scarce brown and red version (see following item #2058). Nicely detailed, painted as Superman appeared in comic books. This figure was also used for ashtrays of which 2 are known. Tiniest traces of very minor aging/wear. There are some discrepancies in the color of the fleshtone paint on face but we believe this is as produced and factory done, not a later touch-up. No repairs. About as nice as these come. Exc. Only the fifth we’ve offered in our 43 years. Listed in the “Official Price Guide To Pop Culture Memorabilia – 150 Years Of Character Toys & Collectibles” at values of $3,000 in Fine, $6,000 in N. Mint.
