Item Description
21.5x25.5” frame contains Nov. 29, 1896 page for The World-Comic Weekly newspaper page that has been professionally double-matted to 16.5x20.5”. Full-page comic panel features art by George B. Luks and features The Yellow Kid walking hand-in-hand with then President-Elect William McKinley. The Kid’s shirt reads “De Majer En Me Are Pickin Out De Cabinit. Why Dem Little Kids Er His Right Hand Bowers And Ez Fur Me – Don’t Say A Word, Fer Bein Foxy I Kin Give Boss Platt Kards En Spades. I Kno Whose Gon To Be Sekery-Tary Of State – If He’d Brake His Arm I’de Have Mine In A Sling – I’m Not Sayin A Word – Aint I Fly Doe?” McKinley holds pair of Yellow Kid babies in his arm, one of them saying “Were Pickin A Cabinet Too.” Great scene showing the inhabitants of Hogan’s Alley, including stereotypical black child who says “I Want To Be Minister To Liberia.” American flag hangs in bkg. Horizontal fold at center as originally folded. .25” sliver missing at right margin. Small .25” puncture from reverse through foam core backing at bottom right margin. This makes a tiny .25” break in the newsprint with tiny white mark showing. Easily repaired but would require disassembly of frame. Rest of page, though moderately aged, displays Exc.
