Item Description
7x8”, 50-page booklet was printed in commemoration of the Mar. 4, 1897 inauguration of William McKinley. Front cover is decorated with the Statue of Freedom that adorns the cupola of the U.S. Capitol building, White House and other notable Washington, DC buildings/monuments with the American flag in statue’s hand and scene showing docks of the Potomac with the Washington Monument in bkg. Booklet has various ads for local Washington businesses and has bw photo of the U.S. Capitol building and photos of McKinley and Vice President Garret Hobart. In addition to extensive advertising, booklet also serves as an inaugural program. Page 28 has full page ad for High Admiral Cigarettes featuring The Yellow Kid, his shirt reading “Say! Ye Want Te Be Dead Careful About Usin Me Face Cause Its Rented See!” There are cigarettes behind his ear, in both hands and feet as well as lit cigarettes in his pocket. Ad reads “The Cigarettes To Smoke Are The Yellow Kid, The Admiral And The High Admiral – With Each Package Of These The Smoker Gets One Of Outcault’s Valuable Series Of Original Comic Yellow Kid Buttons.” (see complete set of these Yellow Kid buttons #996) Cover and a few pages are loose with cracks at spine due to fragileness of pages.
