Item Description
7.25x10.5” letter on Caniff’s personal stationery is dated Mar. 22, 1952 and reads in part “I Was Delighted To Have Your Cordial Note With The Good Word About Steve Canyon Being Selected As The Number One Pin-up By The Girls In Your Department. Interests Such As Yours Gives Me A Great Deal Of Pleasure And I Hope The Attached Greetings From Steve Will Serve As A Little Reminder Of My Gratitude.” Caniff then goes on to sign his name in blue ink. Letter has some handling wear with creases in upper right corner and lt. aging along top margin. Fine/VF. Comes with 10x13.75” stiff paper illustration of Caniff’s flying hero Steve Canyon that Caniff has hand-colored. Print has additional inscriptions by Caniff reading “Steve Canyon – For The Gang In The Program Department Of Station WITH in Baltimore…Best Wishes From Milton Caniff – New York – March 1952.” Moderate margin wear along right side with pair of .75” tears at upper right margin and heavy crease at corner. .5” moisture stain at lower right corner margin. VG/Fine. Nice related pair that would look great matted and framed together.
