Item Description
9.5" long base, 8" tall to top of clown's hat. Cast iron made by Shepard Hardware c. 1888. This is the earlier version of this bank. Later, simpler versions were made by the Hubley Mfg. Co. of Lancaster, PA. When lever on side is pushed, dog holding coin in its mouth jumps through the hoop and deposits coin in barrel. Spring is somewhat on the weak side so dog needs a little push after lever is depressed to make him function. A new spring could be easily installed by mechanical bank repair person. Moderate paint loss on barrel and clown. Paint is chipping around outside edges of base and gold lettering as well. About 70% of paint remains. Fine.
