Item Description
8.5x12.5x4" deep wood box. c. early 1900s. 5.5x10.5" paper label with text reading "Assortment No. 25/Fine Christmastree Ornaments./Geo. Brumder, Milwaukee, Wis." Illustration shows early Santa Claus/Kris Kringle with walking stick in one hand, the other holding a decorated Christmas tree. Dolls, toys, games appear along his waistline as well as a shoulder pack that reads "Germania Kalender." Brumder was both an author of several books and publisher of a German-American almanac titled "Germania Kalender" from 1906 to 1918. This 300+ page almanac was filled with various articles and advertising. Presumably Brumder promoted his Christmas tree ornament offerings in that publication. Nonetheless, an interesting, early illustration of Santa. Lid is detached from fabric hinged box. Moderate aging and wear. Box remains sturdy. An interesting and rare holiday item. First we've seen.
