Item Description
Lot of 2 for proposed premium offer c. late 1940s. Premium was printed patterns to be stuffed and sewn into 12" tall cloth doll. First is 18x21.5" stiff white backing paper centered by mounted 16-1/4x20" thin paper sheet w/ art mostly in colored pencil. Pictured examples are Dick Tracy, Orphan Annie, Sparkle Plenty, Shadow, Uncle Walt, Denny Dimwit, Herby. Art has light vertical center crease w/some dust and smudging, particularly across lower right which also has a 4" horizontal tear. Art overall clean, Fine. Second item is 13x18" and this piece of original art features design for a counter display. Depicted are images of Dick Tracy, Orphan Annie and Herby. This notes the dolls were to be available for 25¢ and one box top although no specific product is indicated. Sheet has all-over noticeably aged with some staining at top margin, dust soiling and scattered edge wear with small tears and flakes. The thin paper sheet is mounted to same size sheet of stiff cardboard. The art itself remains Fine and much of the margin defects could be matted out. Both are unique. This is a file copy from the archives of premium creators Sam & Gordon Gold accompanied by a letter to that effect from Gordon Gold.
