Item Description
7x4x4.5” deep box contains 7.5” dia. hard plastic spaceship w/encased gyroscope. Hard plastic w/numerous soft plastic accessories. Early 1960s. Box is nicely illustrated including spaceship scene on lid, sides feature illustrations of the toy in action and images of the accessory pieces included w/set. There is some separation of outer paper layer from the inner corrugated cardboard box. Small hole in back, .5” tear in front but VG. Main part of toy is a yellow saucer-shaped gyroscope w/orange attachments on top and bottom. There is a plastic lunar surface base, outer gimble which holds the gyroscope in green, mounting post and crank. Top of saucer has two clear plastic domes which can be opened for placement of pair of astronaut figures. These are already in place. Other pieces include one of two cars, five of nine moon men, three of nine spacemen although one has damage, one of three rockets. The single rocket which is here has small rough spot at tip. Comes w/5x8” “Operation Manual” featuring “More Than 50 Tricks Plus Performance hints.” This also includes small licenses for “Pilot, Co-Pilot, Interplanetary Navigator.” Has some creases and small tears. Fine. Toy is fascinating, works, and performs numerous spinning tricks, balancing on its side, on center post, attached to a string, etc. Ship shows only st. trace of wear and is overall VF to Exc. Interesting toy in a scientific vein inspired by 1960s emphasis on space exploration.
