Item Description
From the 1996 Walter Gibson estate sale. Twelve-page document and stapled folder “Agreement Between Walter B. Gibson And Street & Smith Publications, Inc.” Papers are dated September 30, 1952 and deal with the amount of $10,000.00 being paid to Gibson for rights to The Shadow, including all written material dealing with The Shadow, all the characters appearing in The Shadow stories and “Any And All Property And Other Rights,” as well as the Maxwell Grant pen name. Page 10 is signed by Gibson and the Vice-President of Street & Smith Publications Inc. Document has been notarized by two separate notaries. Light handling wear with .5” tear to front cover. VF with Exc. contents. Also included are three letters, two from Gibson’s attorney dealing with fees for handling case between him and Street & Smith as well as accompanying file copies. Third letter is from second attorney in response to requests for duplicates of Supreme Court papers. Letters have some handling wear and aging and are overall VF. Also included are three booklets printed in conjunction with the case by the Supreme Court of the State of New York. Light handling wear and aging. VF. Interesting lot as these are Gibson’s personal papers dealing with his signing over the rights to his character. Historic and unique.
