Item Description
10-5/8x15.25” thin artboard splash page for “Adventure Comics” No. 418; from April, 1972. Art is for the first page of a two-part story that continued into issue No. 419. This was a solo story of the Black Canary, the first since the Golden Age and the first solo story of the daughter of the original Black Canary. Pen and ink art features Black Canary facing down masked gunmen. Impressive line work and use of shadow, a trademark of the late, great Alex Toth. Large and contrasting “Black Canary” title at top with text “Presenting An All New Adventure Of The Loveliest Lady Crime-Fighter Of Them All…The Black Canary.” Also two brief lines of intro for story. Toth has signed in bottom right-hand corner in pen and ink. Light moisture streak, barely affecting ink on bottom of main thug’s leg. This is a very minor flaw and is not all that noticeable when viewing piece as a whole. Exc. Comes with a copy of comic book the art appears in. This truly classic Toth page has been re-printed several times including in the Black Canary archives Volume 3, Comic Book Artists Issue No. 11, Glamour International Magazine Issue No. 24. This piece has been in a private collection for over 20 years and we are pleased to finally be able to offer it to the comic art community.
