Item Description
Lot of four measuring between 11.75x15.25” and 13x17.5”. All done in pen and ink. All presumed to have been done c. 1935, during Brown’s tenure at the New York Herald Tribune. First piece “That New Deal Spending Fever Is Catching” depicts budget crisis. “The Animal Of The Month” depicts Democratic donkey carrying rifle marked “F.D.R. Inauguration” with lion draped over barrel and lamb chops under his arm, making reference to – in like a lion, out like a lamb. “Unemployed For Four Years” depicts “New Deal Administration” Democratic donkey asking “1932 Gov’t Economy Plank-Dem. Platform” to return. “Upon Closer Inspection” shows voter dealing with taxes, depicted as bulls dotting the “New Deal Green Pastures.” All four are done on thin artboard and have varying degrees of corner tip wear and soiling, not infringing greatly upon image areas. Overall Fine/VF.
