Item Description
14-7/8x22" artboard has 10x13.25" India ink image area with litho crayon shading. A large Yankee player with bat is shown coming out of "A.L. Cellar" as "The Rest Of The A.L." figure runs out and yells "To The Hills, Men! The Damn 'Yanks Has Burst!" Signed at lower right of scene by Willard Mullin, recognized as the dean of 20th century sports cartoonists and creator of the Dodgers' "Brooklyn Bum." Art is titled "The Believers" in pencil at top and has ink notes by Mullin on the reverse for printing in the "New York World-Telegram." Margins have various editorial notes, left and right side edges have some white-out applied by artist. Image area will mat and frame to near Exc. appearance. c. 1950 and a choice example of Mullin's art.
