Item Description
Brass container 2-1/8" diameter by .75" deep with the Greek key motif around the side and extremely detailed embossed profile portrait on the removable lid. His shoulder truncation has tiny maker's inscription "M.&.P.F." and below this "Jefferson." Trivial bit of denting on the lid, small bit of tarnish, mostly on side edge and the interior base has minor touch of green corrosion consistent with use and age but of no consequence condition-wise. Overall, nice muted brass color and just minor smoothing of some details on his hair. This item is difficult to date exactly and could easily be from his presidential years 1801-1809 but conservatively we estimate more likely from around the time of his death in 1826. In either case, a great item for our third president and the only example we know of.
