Item Description
A beautiful 15/16" ferrotype almost certainly from 1872 with the outer rim in lovely blue fabric accented by a Mint luster brass circle surrounding each portrait. Some loss of the blue plush on the fabric but these areas just show bluish-white and the entire piece remains totally clean. The Greeley ferro is exceptionally bright and with a flawless surface. His full name is printed below. On the opposite side is pictured Grant's running mate from 1868 Schuyler Colfax although his name does not appear on the ferrotype. By his left cheek are a pair of minute, about 1/32", pair of black circular lines but so tiny as to be barely noticeable without magnification. These tiny marks appear to be in the emulsion and as made and the image is also exceptionally bright with undamaged surface. A beautiful piece, both rare and possibly unique.
