Item Description
This boxed toy is from the Hake collection and has remained unopened since its purchase many years ago. Upon looking at this item in order to describe it we made several discoveries which will be noted. The box is 15.5x15.5x2" deep. © 1959 Four Star Malcolm. Features same design on front and back panels of box that includes scene of western town, inset photo of Josh Randall done as if tacked up on a wall. Same bw portrait photo of Randall appears on all four side panels. Box is complete w/cardboard insert that fits around the target. Box has scattered edge wear, small dent at one corner, bottom side panel has st. fade to red color but still clean and Fine. Box states "Complete With Holster" although no holster is included. The hard plastic and metal gun is 13.5" marked w/Marx logo and "Offical Wanted Dead Or Alive Mares Laig." Rather than being a dart-firing gun, this is version that fires caps. It does come w/four darts (only three are shown in our photo). Three are of the same style, one is same length but slightly different. Suction cup tips are intact but distorted. Gun works, has never been fired and is N. Mint. The choice tin litho target is 15x15", complete w/wire easel attachment. Features similar art to the box although w/totally different and full figure image of Randall at lower left. At top center is diecut bandit knock-down target. This shows him standing in front of bank teller window and pointing his gun at the viewer. On either side of this are simulated wanted posters, one of "Injun Joe" who's wanted for "Robbery And Murder" and the other is "Black Bart" who is wanted for "Highway Robbery." Target has tiniest traces of wear, mostly to extreme edges but remains totally bright and glossy, still displays as N. Mint. As set remains unused and even includes the cardboard insert, possibly mis-packaged at the factory.
