Item Description
Last auction, we sold a production example of this toy for $2,087. 15" long plastic encased wind-up shooting arcade. Marx, ©1966 NPP, Inc. Larger of three sizes Marx produced, one smaller and one this size, but w/o Joker head or wind-up. Underside of arcade has attached note card w/faint handwritten text that reads "G-246 - 5/19/66." Arcade comes w/two wire stanchions that are inserted into bottom and attached spring-loaded BB gun. Playing field includes large running images of Batman and Robin and "Batman" comic book title. Backdrop features skyline of Gotham City w/Batman and Robin in Batplane. In front of backdrop is plastic figural head of Batman villain The Joker w/open smiling mouth serving as target. This is tan resin test shot that has been hand-painted w/red lips, black hair/eyebrows/pupils and white face. Production model was cast in white plastic w/red painted lips and black pupils, but hair was not painted black as seen here. Attached behind this is tin litho wind-up mechanism that spins a series of small tin litho targets depicting villains including The Penguin, Blockbuster and The Shark as well as Batwoman. Targets are hinged where they attach to spinning base and are designed to fall if struck. No BBs, but these are easily replaced. Plastic has some st. aging/wear w/remnants of tape on front panel and Joker head shows wear to paint w/some flaking to red paint on lips and small marks from BBs on white face. Wire stanchions have trace oxidation. Tin litho playing field has moderate dust soiling/aging. Fine overall. From the Marx factory and comes w/COA to that effect. A unique version of this rare Batman toy.
