Item Description
Both are c. 1950s and done in India ink. Kurtzman art is on 3.25x4" vellum sheet taped to cardboard at top. Image has man in bowtie making a face. Signature in ink on slip glued on front incorporates stick figure man figure at end of "H. Kurtz" name. Some white paint accents, one side and bottom edge are trimmed irregularly as designed. Fine. Severin art is on Craftint artboard w/2.25x2.75" image area and World War I doughboy w/bayonet in trench. "Severin" ink signature at lower right is a neatly applied paste-up. Exc. Kurtzman was the editorial genius behind EC Comics' "MAD" as well as war titles and went on to do "Annie Fanny" comics for "Playboy." Severin did numerous stories for "MAD" comics and war titles, going on to become the main cover and story artist for "Cracked" humor magazine. Nice early pair to frame together. From the Robert M. Overstreet Collection and comes with COA.
