Item Description
15.75x20" Silver Gelatin custom darkroom print on museum-quality double-weight fiber paper. This photo shows Elvis w/his mother Gladys Presley in 1956. Photographed by Alfred Wertheimer, a photographer who frequently took pictures of Elvis. In 1956, Wertheimer was assigned to photograph a 21-year-old singer who RCA was promoting. It was Elvis Presley, a name the 26-year-old Wertheimer did not recognize when he trekked down to New York City's Studio 50 (later to be named the Ed Sullivan Theater) to photograph Presley's appearance on Tommy Dorsey and Jimmy Dorsey's Stage Show. Wertheimer would go on to spend the next several days w/Elvis and over the course of the next two years he would shoot roughly 2,500 photographs. Portrait has white border margin and Wertheimer has signed his name at lower right in black ink. Superb for framing and display. NM.
