Item Description
1.25” fixed vertical pin holding 7/8” celluloid although with seven hairline cracks. In spite of the cracking the piece displays totally clean. Text on the button reads at left “Korvetten Captian Von Müller” and on the right tiny text reads “Kommandant Der Emden.” This famous German Naval Officer was given command of the ship in Spring 1913. He achieved fame and notoriety in both Germany and other Imperial power’s newspapers for his skill in shelling rebellious forts at Nanking. When WWI broke out the Emden captured a Russian mail steamer, the first prize taken by the Imperial German Navy. During the WWI years Müller achieved a reputation for daring and chivalry as he was always scrupulous in trying to avoid non-combatant civilian casualties. Those are only the highlights of his fascinating career. Only example we’ve seen. A rare WWI German issue.
