Item Description
1" litho by Greenduck. Top has shallow .25" hairline dent and paint has craze lines but very tiny as to barely show. Text reads in full "1934-1937/Memorial/Ness-Belor/July 18, 2PM./At The Knoll." Button relates to a 1934 Minneapolis strike by the teamsters. Unarmed strikers were lured to a street corner by deputies in a scab truck. Here they were fired upon by more than 100 police officers. The incident became known as "Bloody Friday." Two pickets, John Belor and Harry Ness, named on this button, were killed in the hail of bullets and more than 65 other workers were injured, many shot in the back. This rare button was issued for a memorial three years after the killings. Rare.
