Item Description
18.25x24.25" framed mirror features Milton Glaser art image against mirrored bkg. "The Wiz" is a musical retelling of L. Frank Baum's "The Wonderful Wizard Of Oz" in the context of African American culture w/music and lyrics by Charlie Smalls. The show opened Oct, 21, 1974 at the Morris A. Mechanic Theatre in Baltimore, MD. and moved to Broadway, playing at the Majestic Theatre (w/a new cast) on Jan. 5, 1975. The show later moved to The Broadway Theatre and closed Jan. 28, 1979, after four years and 1,672 performances. The 1975 Broadway production won seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical. The musical was an early example of Broadway's mainstream acceptance of works with an all-black cast. Lower left corner has some flaking to back of mirrored bkg., but this is not that noticeable and display is Exc. overall. Neat promotional piece.
