Item Description
6x9" program for the 1932 World Series between the Chicago Cubs and New York Yankees. 12 pages w/bw photo portraits of team players including Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig and Charles Root. Centerfold consists of scorecard, full color scene showing Big League Field on reverse. Unscored. Handling wear, pinch creases to spine. VG/Fine w/VF contents. Comes w/8.25x10" vintage news service photo of Charles Root pitching. It was Root who, in Game 3 of the 1932 World Series, pitched Babe Ruth's famed "Called Shot" in which before Root pitched, Ruth pointed to where he was going to drive the ball and proceeded to do so, scoring a home run. Reverse of photo has "Acme Newspictures Inc." ink stamp and "Danner Press of Canton Inc. Camera Dept." slip attached. Penciled caption reads "Charlie Root, Chicago Cubs Pitcher 9-23-37." Scattered handling wear. Fine. Last item is 7-1/8x9" vintage news service photo from the 1932 World Series that shows Babe Ruth crossing home base, shaking hands w/Lou Gehrig after hitting his "Called Shot" home run. Reverse has "United Press International Photo" ink stamp and detailed penciled caption. Photo has some hairline cracks to surface but these are only really noticeable in reflected light. VF. Great group of items related to one of the most fondly remembered World Series.
